"This award means everything to me because it is the culmination of an 11-year journey. Since I started acting, this is the very first time I have been nominated for my performance, so to receive a nomination and win it is incredibly humbling.” said Michael.
“When I first read the script, I honestly did not think I could do the character justice, so I passed on the role. But after taking a second look, I decided to challenge myself, and I am so grateful I did. This recognition belongs not just to me, but to the incredible cast, crew, writers and directors who poured their hearts into Mizani. I am grateful to MultiChoice for believing in local stories and giving us a platform to showcase Kenyan talent to audiences across Africa," added Michael.
In his first leading television role, Michael portrayed Suleiman, a devoted father whose daughter is kidnapped by an organ trafficking syndicate operating in Mombasa. Driven by desperation to save her, Suleiman embarks on a dangerous mission that pits him against a powerful, politically connected criminal network, exposing a web of corruption, betrayal, and long-buried family secrets.
Michael's victory crowned an impressive showing for Maisha Magic Originals at this year's ZIFF Awards where MultiChoice productions dominated the television drama categories, with Single Kiasi (Fridays | 10:30pm); Adam to Eve (Starts 17 Aug | Mon – Fri | 9:30pm), Lazizi (Mon – Fri | 8:00pm), and Mizani all earning nominations for Best TV Drama Series – East Africa.
The latest accolades build on the success MultiChoice enjoyed at the 2025 ZIFF Awards, where Subterranea won Best TV Drama Series – East Africa, while Jimmy Gathu (The Chocolate Empire) was named Best Actor in a TV Drama – East Africa, underscoring the growing impact of locally produced stories on the regional stage.
Established in 1997, the Zanzibar International Film Festival is an esteemed annual event that showcases films from diverse regions, promoting cultural exchange and celebrating the vibrant art of filmmaking. ZIFF continues to inspire and unite global audiences through the magic of cinema.
